This in-depth program provides all you need to become an SSI Open Water Instructor. Once certified, you can train new SSI divers, teach Enriched Air Nitrox, Diver Stress & Rescue, and create Dive Guides. The possibilities are endless, so start your dive career now!

The Instructor Training Course consists of:

Online Study - You will study from the eco-friendly digital training materials. Approximately 10 hours of reading, videos, and quizzes.
5 days of Instructor-led classroom, pool, and open water training.

An SSI Open Water Instructor is qualified to issue certification for the following courses:

Basic Diver
Referral Diver
Scuba Diver
Open Water Diver
Experienced Diver Test
Advance Adventurer
Diver Stress & Rescue
Enriched Air Nitrox
Dive Guide
Many other courses and specialties are available with additional training.

Course Prerequisites:

Minimum age of 18.
Have logged 100 dives totaling a minimum of 65 hours.
Have the specialty certification in Deep Diver, Enriched Air Nitrox, Night/Limited Visibility, and Navigation.
Have a current certification in First aid, CPR & O2 (React Right Course).
Certified as an SSI Dive Master or equivalent from a recognized training agency.

What you'll need:

Total Diving System including mask, snorkel, fins, boots, wet suit, hood, gloves, BCD, regulator, alternate air source, dive computer, SPG, knife, compass, deployable surface marker buoy, tanks, whistle, and weights.
SSI Wetnotes.
Dive Briefing and Guiding Evaluation Slate.
Buddy Team Log Slate.

Course Duration & Fee:

If you enter the course as a Divemaster from any recognized training agency, the Instructor course will be nine days. The course fee is $2335.00 including the digital training materials.

If you enter the course as an Assistant Instructor from a recognized training agency other than SSI, the Instructor course will be nine days. The course fee is $2335.00 including digital training materials.

If you enter the course as an SSI Assistant Instructor, the Instructor course will be five days. The course fee is $1000.00 including digital training materials.

To complete the Instructor Certification:

Upon completion of the Instructor Training Course (ITC), candidates must complete an Instructor Evaluation (IE) within six months of the ITC to receive their Instructor Certification. The IE is hosted by an SSI Certifier and is an additional fee to be paid to the Instructor Certifier at the IE.
