New From PADI eRDP |
The next generation of the Recreational Dive Planner is here and it has gone digital. The eRDP is an electronic dive table that makes dive planning simpler and more convenient. What it isn’t, however, is a dive computer. Think of it as a specialized calculator that will make your life easier. |
For dive planning and dive logging, you press a couple of buttons and you get the same maximum dive times, pressure groups and surface intervals as when you use the table version of the RDP. The eRDP does the calculations and you get to skip the math - reducing the potential for dive planning errors. You can choose either metric or imperial dive planning and run the eRDP in one of three modes: · Dive Planning - Which lets you plan up to five consecutive dives. · Surface Interval - Which lets you find a minimum surface interval between dives. · Maximum Depth - Which lets you find the maximum allowable depth for a given dive time.
Both the RDP’s general rules and special rules apply when using the eRDP. But, the eRDP will actually prompt you when some of these rules come into effect. Specifically, the eRDP will let you know if a safety stop is required, if you’re planning a dive beyond the RDP limits and if any Special Rules for Multiple Dives apply. The eRDP also comes with an attached slate that allows you to reference the RDP general rules while planning dives. Although it is moisture resistant, the eRDP is not submersible and will be destroyed if you take it underwater. How can you use the eRDP during training? Similarly, PADI Divemaster candidates may use the eRDP when completing the Decompression Theory and the Recreational Dive Planner exam. Candidates should, however, also know how to use the RDP table so they can answer diver questions about table use when acting as a certified assistant. PADI Instructor candidates may use the eRDP for any exam at a PADI Instructor Examination but must be able to teach all versions of the RDP. A computer-based eRDP simulator will also be available for use during classroom presentations involving the RDP. |
